Next generation security screening
As a result of the introduction of more stringent security regulations, the control of vehicles passing from landside to airside (from the public area of the airport to the platform area) via a vehicle checkpoint is to be more rigidly enforced over the coming years. This presents logistical problems.
Approach
The study entitled "Next Generation Screening Landside - Airside" is aimed at conducting research into a different screening and passage process for vehicles passing from landside to airside. The research examines the possibility of combining various advanced technologies, whereby a distinction is made between existing technology and technology that is yet to be developed, in order to develop a so-called ‘security carwash’.
Results
The first and second phases of the research have been finished successfully. The first phase existed of a research with an exploration of whether it would be possible to automate the process of vehicle throughput. The second phase existed of a more thorough investigation carried out by TNO and Schiphol. Based on these results Schiphol decided to wait until the developments of automated detection are more advanced before this project will continue.
